Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) is a swashbuckling adventure film directed by Gore Verbinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

It is the first installment in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, and Geoffrey Rush.


The film is set in the early 18th century and follows the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), a charming and eccentric pirate, as he seeks to reclaim his stolen ship, the Black Pearl.

The plot kicks off when the Black Pearl attacks the port town of Port Royal and kidnaps Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley), the governor’s daughter. She possesses a cursed medallion that is central to the curse affecting the crew of the Black Pearl.


Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), a blacksmith with a hidden past, joins forces with Jack Sparrow to rescue Elizabeth. Together, they face off against Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), the leader of the cursed crew who are doomed to live as skeletal beings under the moonlight. The crew’s curse is linked to a treasure chest that must be returned to lift the curse.
